KENYA
Here's an enlightening article from NPR about girls and women in Kenya and the menstrual challenges they face. Even if there are disposables to buy and appropriate places to dispose of them, the cost is way out of reach for a large percentage. Every kit we provide gives the recipient an opportunity to live her life fully each and every day of the month. Thank you so much for your contributions of time, money and supplies. Just think of all the girls whose lives you have enriched!
PARTY IN PORTLAND
If you're in the Portland area this Friday, you might want to check out The PDX Red Party. The North Portland DFG team will have a table with some hands-on activities.
MOTHERS' DAY
Would you like to make a contribution to Days for Girls Eugene in honor of a mother or someone else special? You can go directly to our Crowdrise fundraiser, or give me cash or a check made out to Days for Girls. We are a 501c3 nonprofit. Another idea is to think of the local women who need to rely on Food for Lane County to stretch their monthly budgets. Pick up a box of tampons or pads and leave them this Saturday in the bag you're setting out for the Postal Carrier food drive. The guidelines say nonperishable foods, but a volunteer who works there says they have a section for feminine hygiene products.
MAY WORKDAY
We had a healthy turnout for our May 3 workday. Our volunteers that day included several students from the UO service organization, Alpha Phi Omega. As you can see from the photos below, we have quite a variety of tasks to work on.
JUNE WORKDAY
Our next workday will be, as usual, the first Saturday of the month. Come, if you can, on June 3rd. We meet at Our Sewing Room on the NW corner of 5th and Main in Springfield. Parking in the bank lot across the street is fine. On street, it's a 2-hour limit. If you'd like to go green and ride the bus, the main Springfield station is just a couple of blocks away.
If you're interested in washing, drying and pressing some fabric at home, please let me know in advance, so I can bring it with me.
