Rebuilding our Inventory

The past few weeks have been busy ones for supporters of our Days for Girls team.  The Eugene stake of the LDS church put together an amazing workday for 50 women and teens to build up our supplies of kit components.  In addition to their time sewing bags, liners and shields, these generous volunteers donated undies, Ziplocs and washcloths, and cash.

Many people took home some of what didn't get finished that afternoon, and the components are continuing to come in.  A grateful thank you to Carolyn, Carolyn and Susan for their many hours of planning, organizing, set-up and delivery, and to all of the women who donated and helped that day.

Elyse, one of the women at that gathering, volunteered that she'll be traveling to Ghana at the end of April, and would be happy to deliver some kits.  I contacted the head of DFG Ghana, and she'll be able to distribute the kits!  Fantastic!  If you are traveling to an impoverished area of the world, have some leftover weight allowance, and would be willing to take kits, please let me know and I'll see what we can arrange!

We also have a new request for kits to go to Kenya with a Rotary Youth Group!
Aren't these bags great?  These bags were made by another team, and I wanted to share how cheerful the fabrics are.  Plus, they don't have a lot of light colors to show dirt, the drawstrings are of colorful, sturdy twill tape, and the labels are neatly sewn on with orange or white thread.  The girls will take their bags to school daily (not just when they have their periods), and we want them all to be very attractive--something that looks like it would be their choice of an accessory.

I will have a Days for Girls demonstration table on Saturday, April 25 at the Pioneer Quilters' Show, at the Lane County Historical Museum.  There will be examples and information 10:30-noon, and 2:00--3:30.  Stop by! Donations (supplies or monetary) are always welcome, and if that's a convenient time and location, I'll be happy to receive them then.  Admission to the show benefits the museum, you get to see some great quilts, and may want to browse the gift shop and boutique.

Our next gathering at Our Sewing Room will be April 19, 10 am to 5 pm.  Join us if you can!  If you sew or serge and want to bring your machine, that's great.  OSR has some to loan if that's easier for you.  If you aren't great at using those machines, we always need people to press and cut, and there often are shields that need to have snaps affixed.

Please remember to sign in, and wear a name tag.

And if you like to set up your calendar in advance, the next few dates after that are May 17, June 14, July 19, and August 16.
