INTERNATIONAL WOMEN'S DAY

GOOD FOR THE UK!

Please read this article from The Guardian about tackling period poverty.  It ends with links to other articles on the topic.

SISTERHOOD CIRCLE

If you've donated to our chapter or DFGI in the past, you've probably received at least one email from founder Celeste Mergens in the past week or so, inviting you to be a monthly donor.  We would love to have monthly donations, but please be aware that donations to the Sisterhood Circle will not go to our local chapter.  And all online donations have that pesky credit card fee (over 5% for me last time).  If you want your donations to go to our Eugene Chapter, please write checks payable to Days for Girls, AND put Eugene Chapter" in the memo line.  They can go through me or you can mail directly to headquarters (102 Ohio Street, Bellingham, WA 98225).1Either way, they'll send you a receipt and will send us your donation.

AFTER THE SNOWSTORM

Big thanks to all who were able to brave the wintery weather Saturday and join us at Our Sewing Room, as the streets were trying to return to normal.  We had a healthy turnout, including a hard-working batch of volunteers from Alpha Phi Omega, a service fraternity at the University of Oregon. Many yards of cotton material were pressed and cut, lots of liners were pinned, stitched and serged, dozens of pairs of underwear rolled, and much fabric was turned into pockets.

Sunday was also Glenda's birthday!  She brought this sweet granddaughter quilt to show us.  Glenda is the dedicated volunteer who took 100 pounds of fabric and other supplies to a new DFG Enterprise in Ecuador in January.

These flickering candles were my birthday greeting from Google Sunday morning.

Meeting with this group is something I look forward to each month.  I was happy to spend part of my birthday weekend with you! Thank you so much to all of you who made a gift/contribution to Days for Girls!  It all goes toward changing the lives of girls around the world (127 countries so far).  My actual birthday was Sunday, and that day, my two older grandchildren (7 and 4.5) discovered that sorting pockets by color was great entertainment.  Little do they know this is a project with many opportunities for future involvement . . . .

INTERNATIONAL WOMEN'S DAY

Friday, March 8 is International Women's Day.  As one of over 60,000 Days for Girls volunteers worldwide, be proud of your part in disrupting stigma and empowering girls and women worldwide.  We are not only affecting the daily lives of the people who receive our kits and health presentation, but impacting their education, future, offspring, well-being, dignity and community.  We couldn't do it without our wonderful volunteers!

Google has put together some quotes for us for International Women's Day.  Let's continue to make brighter futures for our sisters as long as there is need.  Every girl.  Everywhere. Period.

CNN also has quotes for International Women's Day.

Enjoy AND be inspired!

LIONS CLUBS

I've written before about how the Springfield Lions Club has been so supportive of our Days for Girls Chapter.  They've donated time and money, I've spoken to their club a couple of times, we had a joint garage sale, and I've been a speaker and had information tables at their regional conferences.  Now, I've just learned about the Lions Club International's new Health for Her campaign:

More Lions Clubs getting involved means more lives changed.  Fantastic!
