HAPPY FEBRUARY 2019

MARCH 2 WORKDAY

We all woke up to lovely snow falling this morning.  I also got the surprise of a huge and ancient cedar branch that just missed hitting my house as it fell (the top ended up in my back patio).  The forecasts since this morning have been improving but we'll have to wait and see if it'll be safe for us to have a workday on Saturday.  Stay tuned!  Assuming I have power, I'll post an update here and send an email to those of you on the mailing list.

DO WHATEVER YOU WANT TO DO!

When a girl gets her period in the United States,
she may miss a class.
When a girl gets her period in a developing country,
she may never go to school again.

BIG VICTORY IN INDIA

A landmark change to India's child marital rape laws.

MENSTRUAL WARRIORS

Also in India, this program trains two students and two teachers in government schools as Menstrual Hygiene Warriors.  The goal is to break antiquated taboos that label menstruating girls and women and unclean and impure.

OSCAR WINNER

Staying on the "India" theme . . .  the Oscar goes to... Periods! Amazing win for women & girls at the Oscars Monday! Period. End of Sentence. won for short documentary!
The entrepreneurial women of Kathikhera, India and a 25 year old female director, Rayka Zehtabchi, have really helped elevate the mensuration movement with this film.

MENSTRUAL/SEX EDUCATION

Moving on to England, here's a GREAT new law.

DEMO

Here's a lovely young African woman explaining how to use the kits.  I so love listening to the accents!

BEAUTIFUL

I took this photo many years ago in Mali, the first time we distributed Days for Girls kits there. This girl's heart has been around the world and back. She now represents Thousands and Thousands who have received Days for Girls kits all around the world. Happy Valentine's Day--especially to all of you who bless others with your kindness. --Ann Laemmlen Lewis

THE PERIOD GAME

To counteract the secrecy and stigma often surrounding the natural function of menstruation, there's now a new board game called The Period Game.  They're having a kickstarter campaign right now, until March 7th.  If you think this is a good idea, you might want to contribute a few dollars to their kickstarter campaign.

The Period Game teaches young people about menstruation.
